The SEN and Disability Local Offer describes what help, support and services are available for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and their families in Lincolnshire.
At St Peter at Gowts we know that working with other agencies for support is beneficial for all children; with this in mind we have formed local connections with Lincolnshire Parent Carer Forum. The Charity is an independent members organisation overseen by a members elected group of Trustees who are mostly parents and carers of children with disabilities and/or Special Educational Needs. They provide the most up to date services and advice, as well as workshops and events. Please take a look at the LPCF brochure which also has the registration form in; you can sign up for free with no obligation to attend anything. You can just use it to update you with information that will be beneficial for you and your child/ren.
To support our families we now have a termly SEND Parent Forum which meets in school. So far we have had sessions from Dyslexia Outreach, The Lincolnshire Parent Carer Partnership, and ideas for groups and places to visit with special sessions (did you know Jump has a special session regularly for children with additional needs?) as well as meeting to talk about what support parents would like.
We are starting our loan scheme of resources and books for parents this term, kindly supported with funding from our wonderful PTA. We are continually developing this according to what parents would find most helpful to borrow. We are also working closely with Linkage sensory loan scheme for families.
Our families have also enjoyed talking together about their child’s differences and supporting each other during these times.
If you would like to join us for a drink, biscuit and a chat, borrow some resources or listen and ask advice of one of our specialist visitors, please let us know!
